Exeter University study
A pair of students are offering the opportunity to take part in some primary research in sports science.
Valtter Lehtonen (studying for Bachelors in Exercise and Sports Science) and Matthew Grover (Masters degree in Sport and Health Sciences) are testing the relationship between mental toughness and situational motivation with pain threshold and pain intensity in trained cyclists. They are looking to examine your mental strength by pushing your body to the absolute limit! This study is aimed at benefitting you by providing specific data of your physical performance as well as your mental strength.

Club house clean up – Saturday 26 November 2016, 12pm to 4pm
To help create more space for turbo session and have a more welcoming, tidy environment we are getting together to tidy up our club house at Torre Valley North. Everyone is welcome and any time spent will be a great help. We’ve discussed this before and so once tidied and cleaned up it can then be maintained in this way for the benefit of everyone who uses this facility.
If you fancy helping out for the afternoon or just an hour or two just add your name to the Facebook post or come along on the day.
Torbay Tri ‘Alternative’ Awards Night 2016 – Cantina, Goodrington Sands on Friday 25 November, time TBC
It’s that time of the year again when we gather to celebrate the good, the funny and embarassing side of our triathletes over the past 12 months. This ‘alternative’ awards night doesn’t see anything awarded for athletic prowess but is a lighthearted affair as we let our hair down and have a good old laugh at the expense of each other.
This year the night is being staged at Cantina, Goodrington which for those of you don’t know is run by Queenie Martin and who only took over the place in the summer. It’s already proved a popular setting for post swim drinks and snacks so it’s sure to be a good night as we also have the place booked out just for us.
Glynn Hughes is organising names and numbers so if you are interested please let him know in person or by adding your name to the Facebook page. He will be happy to answer any questions and we can pay on the night.
Club Meeting – 7pm, Friday 4 November at Torbay Yacht Club
The next meeting is scheduled for Friday 4 November, 7pm at Torquay Yacht Club. Everyone welcome to come along, members and non-members. This is your opportunity to hear about all the exciting things the club is involved in and planning. If there is anything you wish to raise then this is the structured environment to do so and have any questions/concerns answered.
Torbay Tri Questionnaire
We’re always looking at ways to improve as well as consolidate our training and so keen to get your feedback to help shape the future of Torbay Tri.
The plan is to email you a questionnaire which we hope you will take the time to complete and give us some feedback to help with the development of the club and future training sessions. While we can’t promise to meet the requirements of everyone, it is important for us to see what can be done to encourage more people to join the training sessions we put on throughout the year.
Please check your email inbox or junk and if you could return the questionnaire by the next meeting then we can start looking into them. Please return to email@example.com and if anyone has not received one and would like to take part then please also contact Jon Pressling.
As an added incentive, for every completed questionnaire received back, you will be entered into a draw at next meeting for half price swim block at Brixham or free turbo for 4 weeks.
Club Meeting – 7pm, Friday 2 September at Torquay Yacht Club
Any agenda items to be received by Graham Reynolds (Chairman) prior to the meeting and preferably by early the week before.
There are a number of items up for discussion so please come along and join us to have your say in how we shape the future of Torbay Tri. Existing and new members all welcome to come along.
Newport Velodrome Trip – Sunday 12 March 2017
You’ve seen all the exciting track action from Rio and now’s your chance in Wales. No experience necessary as the coaches will gradually introduce you to the banking as well as having no gears of brakes.
The cost is £30 (based on 20 people) which includes bike hire. Money to be paid by end of year please. A Facebook page has been set up for those interested.
Dave Pressley is organising the trip so please contact for further information.
Team GB for Tim Watson
From international swimmer and runner in his younger days, Tim Watson can now add GB age group triathlete to his already extremely impressive CV. The London born sportsman, who now lives in Paignton and trains with Torbay Tri, has just received news of qualification in his age group to compete at the 2017 European Sprint Championships to be held in Germany.
Having only taken up the sport seriously this year and completed his first triathlon in May, it’s a rather impressive rise and one that Tim hopes will end with a podium finish next year against the best in Europe. Somehow managing to find time to train and travel around the country as a musician, Tim won’t be alone in travelling to the championships next year as team-mate Graeme Kay has also qualified to represent GB in his age group.
Club Meeting – 7pm, Friday 15 July at Torquay Yacht Club
Any agenda items to be received by Graham Reynolds (Chairman) as soon as possible.
We hope to have a position on the sea swims along with a number of other agenda items.
All welcome and this is your your chance to have a say in shaping the future of Torbay Tri, and a great opportunity to hear first hand what we’re up to along with future plans.
