Tough Runner 10k and Duathlon

As the momentum of the race season continues to gather pace, the beautiful Escot Estate near Exeter hosted the main weekend race events for Torbay Tri Club members. Two races were organised by events company Tough Runner over the course of weekend, with their Epic Trail 10k run held on Saturday 17th April and the Exeter Duathlon taking place the Sunday. As the organisers name suggests, they were never going to be easy races with the stunning scenery of the estate doing little to flatten the hills.

In Saturday’s 10k run Sam Froggatt and Karen Wills were the representatives for the club. Karen had a good run across the hilly course finishing just outside the hour with a time of 1:00:37. Sam who has been working hard with her training for the 10k distance of late finished in a solid time of 1:13:41.
Sunday was the turn of the duathlon, which was raced over a sprint distance of 5km run into 20km cycle before a second 5km run. The runs took place within the boundaries of the picturesque estate with the cycle taking the athletes out onto the quiet country roads of the surrounding area. Two members from Torbay Tri Club were racing with Laura Wakeham having a great race and was the first female home overall in a time of 1:32:57. Pacing the first run well Laura then showed her strength on the bike leg and crossed the finishing line at the end of the final run with a stunning 2 1/2 minutes gap ahead of 2nd place. Lucy Bufton was also racing the duathlon and had a strong performance finishing 12th in her category in a time 2:02:24
